Battalion Wars 2 - Wii

The famous Battalion Wars series started out as an ordinary game for the Nintendo GameCube. Some two years ago, Nintendo released developer Kuju Entertainment's action-strategy animated war game, Battalion Wars. Not many expected for it to delve deep into one of the greatest animated war games of all time and now that that time has come, it's unbelievable!

To many, the famous Battalion Wars series bore people with many similarities to the Nintendo DS hit, Advance Wars. Both of which feature driving tanks, commanding battleships, piloting planes and directing troops right into the heart of the war. Infantry units, armed with powerful machine guns taking command of their army or in this case, Battalion. And so much more! Though they do have their similarities, they also have many differences about.

This time around, Nintendo takes absolute control and adds something extraordinary to a game, motion control. Although the controls are somewhat complicated, in which almost seem impossible at the beginning, it's worth the wait. Many do not think of game controls as a "feature" to a game, when in fact it is. If you stop and think, controls really are important to a game. Controls in some cases can be the deciding factor of a playable, exciting game or not. Anyhow, you may use the "B" button to fire, perhaps the most important part of the controls. Beside firing, is moving your commander about the map, or campaign level, in which is controlled by moving the control stick on the Nunchuck. In some cases, you'll be ordered to pilot a fighter or bomber throughout the game, and this is where the main excitement is, hidden behind the motion controls. When piloting specific aircraft, you may tilt the Nintendo Wii remote in a direction and the plane fly in that exact direction. You may also decide to fly low to keep away from enemy gun fire, in which you also use the Nintendo Wii remote tilting either up or downward, depending on if you'd like to go higher or lower in elevation. And the "Z" button is used to lock on to approaching enemies. Long story short, I'm completely pleased with what Nintendo chose as their controls for this, one-of-a-kind game and you'll just have to go play it to discover the other controls.

Despite the game great controls, there are a few casualties. The game's graphics. The graphic style hovers somewhere between realistic and cartoonish. While the battlefields seem somewhat realistic, the bouncy animation of the infantry, vehicles and weapons are a little cuddlier. For example, the soldiers are in no way brutish. Instead, they bounce along carelessly, if you will, around the battlefield. Though most of the graphics aren't all too well, it animates beautifully with realistic physics. All in all, the graphics weren't all too well with the game and is horribly disappointing.

Battalion Wars 2 for the Nintendo Wii is a typical animated war game based on operating battalions (armies), advancing upon or defending against the enemy and overall completing each campaign. In most of each and every mission, you have main objectives, such as guarding your Battalion's airbase and might have secondary objectives, such as rescuing your cleanup squad. Each campaign objective must be completed in order to advance onto the next mission. In the long-run, there aren't many additions to this game compared to it's predecessor, Battalion Wars 1, besides online capabilities.

While on topic of online capabilities, Battalion Wars 2 has the greatest online gameplay of any other Nintendo Wii Wi-fi enabled game, in my opinion. Now, I don't intend to be biased towards this unique, strategy game, but Battalion Wars 2 has also been nominated for an NP Award by Nintendo Power as the greatest Wii online game of the year. Multiplayer on Battalion Wars ranges from many different modes including co-op, assault and skirmish, in which each are very unique in their own ways. You may choose from 6 ordinary maps to play on, either playing with anyone or with friend. Game modes on this game are simply amazing and I advise you to check them out as soon as possible. From playing online campaigns with co-op, to assaulting other teams, it's all there, ready for anyone.

Nintendo certainly isn't know for voice acting. Just look at Mario and Link; all you might here from them are grunts and grants. Nintendo does however provide fabulous music composing individuals which each have an original ideas for their music. This being said, each and every composition composed by these artists are fantastic, nothing more and nothing less. In Battalion Wars, each and every sound or campaign tune perfectly fits with the given situation, creating a well balance with the gameplay. Voice acting you ask? It's definitely there. Throughout the game, your commander may order specific tasks in which are voice acted. Every individual as their own unique, speaking style, while this is also adding to the gameplay. In my opinion, many of you will be pleased with the sound.

After completing all missions in all campaigns thoroughly, you may also convert to online gameplay. Online compatibility means never ending because there will always be someone throughout Wi-fi to play. This being said, I'm going to give this game a fabulous replay value of 5.

And speaking of reply value, longevity comes to mind which is a huge disappointment to me. But hey! The game is great otherwise. To me, the game was somewhat short, almost depressing. After completing each individual campaign, you always have Wi-fi, but then again that's sometimes not so fun Here is one thing Nintendo could improve on, but you know, nothing is perfect.

Considering this game is definitely not receiving the renown is should be, I've written this review to inform people around the internet on what they've missed out on this past month or so. Below, I also included the pros and cons of the game listed, so be sure to view those. In addition to that, I rounded up my overall scores for each and every slice of the game. In my opinion, this game is one of the greatest games of the year!

:star:Pros:star: - Good Gameplay, Sound, Replay Value & Wi-fi Capabilities.

:star:Cons:star: - Graphics & Longevity.

It depends if you get a new one or not. But this game is pretty big kinda.

So I think the price is about $40.00-$50.00.

I"ve never played this game, but would really like to.
