I know I reviewed the same game u did but I did it from the standpoint of a seasoned fire emblem player whereas yours was from the viewpoint of a gamer whose history with Emblem isn't as extensive as mine or has never played a FE game.

While I HATE having to constantly choose whether or not I should sacrifice someone/thing, I still think you judged it a little harshly. I actually liked the fact that they left alot of the old gameplay alone, it lets us see where (in my opinion) the best strategy-game series to date started. Remakes aren't for improving gameplay, they for nostalgia and to let new players experience what came before their time. And I'd hope it's the worst FE game you've played; it's the first! If all the others weren't better, it'd mean Intelligent Systems hasn't be doing their job! I also have some ridiculously strong people (as you'll soon find out) whose stats are well into their 20 and I haven't even gotten around to finishing it yet! I'd give it a 7.5, from one whose been called "The Fire Emblem Master."

Hmm perhaps I did rate it a bit harshly, but it really doesn't compare at all to past emblems. This is no blazing swords or radiant dawn my friend.
If remakes are your thing then fine but like I said all this is is a remake of dark dragon with a couple things thrown in like forging and reclassing and online play. Sure it's nice to look back at emblems roots but they couldve improved the game I. So many ways. |

Where do you keep getting Blazing Swords? Do you mean Sacred Stones?
Past Fire Emblems? This was the first. It wasn't supposed to be like any of the others, it came before them. I already knew it was a remake of Dark Dragon...where did that come from? I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the reclassing was in the original and was taken out in later games. I'm not a remake freak, I just like seeing how far we've come. My grade for it was a little harsh, too, but it came from a point of view similar to yours. If I was to grade this as an original title, 7.5 would be about right...but this game came out in 1990...I was barely a year old...judging it based on that would bump the score up as high as a 9.5! You have to remember that this was what started it all. If not for this game, Fire Emblems might be a type of sandwich! |

Blazing swords is the seventh fire emblem, the one before sacred stones and in America it was simply titled Fire Emblem.
And you're right, fire emblem does rest on the shoulders of marth in a sense. If nintendo was planning on making a remake, they did a pretty damn good job. If they were aiming to make it a fantastic recreation of marths story that rivals the perfectionf of other Emblems, then they failed lol. And what I meant by previous emblems are all of the games created before shadow dragon, or the ds remake. Dark dragon was the title of the original famicom release. And a fire emblem sandwich would be delicious an quite bizarre. |
