RPG Maker 2003 review
Wow.. this is my first review so, don't down it....
Ah... RPG Maker 3, one of the games unknown to mankind and probably one of the worst. Why is it so bad? Well, it may not seem so bad right? I mean... a game that allows you to create an RPG on your PS2 doesn't sound so bad right? Well, you people that say that, shut up and read this review. This is RPG Maker 3.
Okay, this game is made by Enterbrain, and they are a godly company. You may know them from the famous RPG Maker series, such as RPG Maker VX. Now, I was guessing they needed to attract audiences who didn't have computers, but audiences who had game systems such as the PS2. Now there were some games made before this, such as RPG Maker for the PSX.
And RPG Maker 2:
I do not have these games, but they might be as bad as RPG Maker 3. Well, enough with the intro, lets get started.
Description
Okay, imagine you, a game designer right in your own home. Well, thats what this game ATTEMPTS to tell you because you feel like a little kid drawing comics on a piece of paper. I am not kidding. RPG Maker 3 is just a simple RPG game designing... game, that allows you to create your own fantasy in a matter of seconds. Now that might not sound so bad right? Well, if you say that.... YOU SUCK! In the back of the cover it says "So easy, even a child can do it!" I mean really?? If the dang things says that, then just get RPG MAker versions on the computer. It makes you look like a dumbass!! It's like saying "I made a game with a software that was so simple, my 5 year old can even do this!" It makes you sound like a dumbass, I mean a child can't use RPG Makers on the computer so easily right. If you use the computer versions, there's as lot more challenge to it right, it's not that simple right?? Also, RPG Maker 3 doesn't even let you make your own characters, you need to pick form a very small selection of characters. AN addition to that, you can't even make your own building designs, your own battle designs and animations, NOTHING!!! Everything is built in-game. It's like the game saying " Hey you, you wanna make a game, you gotta play it by my rules!" In other words, you have no freedom when you make this game. When creating a game, you want to express yourself, make the game 100% original. Oh my god... I'll tell you more in the Pros and Cons.
Pros
Okay, this game is HORRIBLE. But still, every game has a little hope in it so, lets start off with the good things about this horrible game.
1. Mapping
Okay, as I said, this game has a little hope, and this is just one of those things you will see. So, when you create maps, they are just really simple. What can be easier than taking the model of buildings and placing it in your town? What can be easier than drawing your finished dungeon free hand? Well, nothing. It's not as easy as mapping in the computer versions of RPG Maker, but it's almost there.
2. Making events/variables
With every game designing engine, you might see some words like "varibles" or "Script" or "Events??" Am I right? In each of those engines, it's pretty hard to understand right? Well, in RPG Maker 3, making events and varibales are very easy, and very organized. Scripts in this game are really step by step events. Theres really not much to say about this one so, yeah...
Yep... those are all the pros.... Oooh, you gettin a little worried now huh? Haha... Lets take a look at the cons:
Cons
There is a lot to say about the cons. But.. I'll shorten it a little. Lets take a look:
1. Character Designing
Okay, like what I said in the description, this game makes you play by it's rules. Well, character designing is a pain in the ASS!!! You cannot even create your own character, or monsters for that matter. You gotta use the ones built in-game. Now, don't mistaken me but, THAT SERIOUSLY SUCKS!!! Why couldn't the character designing be more like Soul Calibur 3's??? WHY??? Why can't it be more like, pick out the face; pick out the clothing (outer, inner, main); hair style, color, skin color, etc. Well with RPG Maker 2003, the answer to that is NOOOOOOOOO!!!! You gotta choose the race, and pick Adventurer 1, Elf 2, I mean... really?? Could they do a little better than that?
2. Skill/Attack Design
Okay, you got this outta me. This might be the worst thing on the game. Okay so first, you sekect the amount of damage and see if you want to attack 1 person or more. Then the animations come in. You need to select different types of animations and sounds. Now the animations look like crap, the character movements are super still and delayed; and the sounds are the wierdest. Some sound like a little girl screaming, others sound like farts. In fact, theres an animation that looks like your pooping. Theres not much to say but.. thats the skill/attack design.
3. Playing your finished game.
Once you finish your game, you feel so satisfied. Now, you gotta test play it. This is where the dissapointment comes in... Theres really not much to say about this one. Once you play the finished game, it's so.... boring. Seriously, it's super boring, you get 5 minutes into the game, you are asleep. I guarantee, you will be asleep. Everything about it is... boring! The atmosphere, the characters, EVERYTHING!!!!
Theres a lot more cons but, I really don't wanna get too negative.
Conclusion
Overall, RPG Maker 3 is good for first time game designers. Still, I seriously don't recommend getting this game at all. It sucks. Thats my description of the game; it SUCKS, don't get it.
