I would suggest trying to do boss runs to make sure you know how to effectively use your dodge techniques such as sidestepping and air dodging. Keep in mind that toon link is indeed a clone of link with the exception of a few standard moves, but he is much faster. His standard attack and up and forward smashes are fast. Plus if you get under him his d-air is alot faster than TP Link's, plus he has alot more air control and can spike you upwards of 3 times if he knows what he's doing. What I've found is that training for a good link-user opponent usually leads me to try and out melee him. Toon link's range is minuscule, but his speed more than makes up for it. I apologize for being so long winded, but on a final note, I wouldn't suggest trying to find a "better" character, just watch your buddies technique and try and out-wit him. Definitely practice your dodging though. If he can't hit you, he can't beat you.

Happy gaming!
