Red/Blue and Gold/Silver were and will always remain the best. You didn't have to remember and catch 4000000 pokemanz, they were more challenging(in my opinion), Gold/Silver allowed you to go to two regions, etc, etc.
As for my favorite thats easy; Magikarp. Nothing beats that beastly thing. ;D
