Eh... I broke up with my girlfriend before I went to basic because I knew that she was going to head off to college in Nebraska, and I was going to be stationed somewhere (they don't tell you until you're done with AIT) far away. I ended up being stationed in New York and having a blast so it all worked out. You do get a lil' homesick though but that's just because he's young and probably hasn't been away from home much before.
