Role Playing Tips.

I'm not sure about many of you, but I have been Rping around the net since 1999 (Yeah that long). There are quite a few tricks to the trade in order to make a fair/successful Role Play work. How you may ask?

First things first, the question to many Noobs just starting out.

Q: How do I Role-Play?

A: Simple, if you know how to write a story, you know how to Role Play. The key is to think creative and think like you are writing just another story, but now this time with a group or just one extra. When there is more than just you, it's quite fun especially once a story gets in depth and more exciting.

Terms you Should Know

Q: What is an OC and OOC? And how are they different?

A: OC stands for Original Character, basically it's a no brainer, a Character that you made all on your own for example. However many people tend to get that confused with OOC which is nothing like OC. OOC stands for Out Of Character, which simply means you are not currently in character. OOC is determined by these ( [ { } ] ) So make sure you use then if you want to talk to them on the thread/chat when it does not involve the story.

e.g. "Nani?......why did that happen?" (Um....was that supposed to happen?)

Q: What is an NPC?
A: Anyone who has played any Role Playing game, be it computer games or in a Chat Room (i.e., World of Warcraft, Chatroom), knows that NPC stands for Non-Playable Characters. Generally these are used when you want to have a certain thing done, that maybe one of your characters cannot do.

i.e., Shop Keeper(NPC): May I help you with something? You:No thanks, I am ready to pay. Shop Keeper(NPC): Alright that comes to $10.50 please. You: *Nodding he grabbed the money from his wallet and kindly paid for it* Thank you.

So to reiterate, NPC is a character you use just for filler.

Things you should NOT do while Role Playing.

Q: What if someone is being Unfair...what do I do?
A: Easy answer...don't reply back or refuse to continue to Role Play. When someone is being unfair it usually means they are God-Modding. God-Modding means that if you or the other person begins posting replies that you cannot get out of, like an automatic kill we'll say. It means it was unfair. I'll give you an example here. Let's just say you make your character go strolling along the sidewalk, but then the other person comes in and automatically writes that he kills you, without giving you a chance to defend yourself.

God-Modding allows the other person to control your character without notice, and that is why it is frowned upon with all Role Playing Sites/Chatrooms today, nothing ruins a fun Role Play than someone who can't play fair. So take my advice, don't argue with the person and just say you stop rping with them.

Jules' Tips

Remember Role Playing is about being creative, which means putting a lot of thought into what you say. Doing nothing but three word posts is not a good way to Role Play. For example, say you were describing someone:

Bad Way:
"Oh he is big and dark with dark hair and brown shirt."

Better Way:
"The man you are referring to is quite large and has a dark complexion. He has black long hair and wears a tan shirt."

Best Way:
"The gentleman you inquire about is robust in nature and tan in appearance. He has wavy black hair that goes down to his shoulders and can be seen sporting a tan tunic much of the time."

It makes the whole experience more enjoyable for everyone and with practice anyone can do it.

There will be more coming soon, and the thread is now open for discussion.

Please feel free to Reply to this thread if you want some answers that weren't described here. I've had well over 10 years of experience in the RP World.

Have fun Role-Playing guys and I hope you enjoy these, helpful tips!
