As she took out the two bronze coins to pay for her drink, she saw the bartender's gaze on her hands. Instinctively, she covered her palm with her sleeve as she handed over the coins. No one could see the mark tattooed on her skin, extending from around her wrist to the base of her neck. She kept her head down and took the drink without saying another word.
