I should win most creative blog title award. Read it if you want. I don't care. But I didn't join it in December 1969 like it says, more like December 2007....
My 10 favourite bands of all time
Posted 03-08-2008 at 01:00 AM by KirbyPunk
I'm really bored right now, so I've decided to post my 10 favourite bands of all time and a little bit about them. These are not in any order, and I like all these bands equally.
10. Only Crime - Only Crime is a punk rock/hardcore supergroup featuring members from Good Riddance (See below), Bane, GWAR and the legendary Black Flag, among others. They have released 2 albums to date, most recently early last year. Recommended to any hardcore punk fan. 9. Good Riddance - A melodic hardcore/punk band from Santa Cruz California. They released 7 albums before breaking up in 2007. This band is for fans of any type of punk or rock music, and has a diverse style of punk, covering all the genre's bases. 8. NOFX - One of the most popular underground punk bands (conradiction?) that has gotten to where they are today without any MTV or radio exposure. Although originally very humerous, NOFX has lately taken a more political stance, that mixes political lyrics with singer/bassist Fat Mike's sarcastic nature to create perfect punk. Go listen. 7. Buzzcocks - Probably the original "pop/punk" band, starting in the 70s, and were probably the first punk band to release an album independantly. This band pioneered a genre, and they are still going strong as one of punk's leading bands, 30 years later. 6. The Clash - Even if you haven't heard of The Clash, you probably have heard one of their songs. (Should I Stay or Should I Go?, Rock the Cashbah, I Fought the Law, London Calling....)They started out as a 70s punk band, competition for the Sex Pistols, but outlasted them and went on to create amazingly diverse, but always great music, performing everything from punk, to rap, to dub, to reggae. All their music is great, although I enjoy their early punk music more than their later music. But either way, Singer/Lyricist/Rythm Guitarist Joe Strummer was a legend. R.I.P Joe. 5. No Use For a Name - One of the original Fat Wreck Chords bands, these guys play fast pop/punk, sometimes ventruring into hardcore territory. They have been going strong for a long time now, and are showing no signs of slowing down. Their new album, "Feel Good Record of the Year" will be out on April 1st, and you can hear their new song "Biggest Lie" on their myspace, or download it from the Fat Wreck Chords website. 4. Bad Astronaut - And indie-rock/acoustic/punk/space rock side project from Joey Cape of Lagwagon fame. After creating a couple of albums, drummer and longtime friend of Joey's, Derrick Plourde, commited suicide with their third album only halfway done, Joey debated whether to complee the album with Derrick gone, and finally decided to go ahead with it, which resulted in one of the most beautiful, touching, emotional and personal album I've ever heard, Twelve Small Steps, One Giant Disappointment. Check it out. 3. Strike Anywhere - A melodic hardcore punk band who recently moved to Fat Wrecks Chords to record Dead FM. A great album with political lyrics with a personal touch, and great sing-along choruses, any self respecting punk fan should chck this band out. 2. Strung Out - Another one of Fat Wreck's original bands (If you haven't noticed, Fat Wreck Chords is my favourite record label), Strung Out started out as a very fast pop/punk band in the vein of NOFX. They gradually started evolving into a more metal style though, and now remain on the border between metal and punk. Great music, strong lyrics, furious drumming, Dragonforce - esque solos, and songs that somehow mix pop/punk and metal, any fan of either genre should check out these guys' newest release, Blackhawks Over Los Angeles. 1. Rise Against - Almost everybody nowadays has heard of Rise Against, and deservedly so. Starting off on Fat Wreck before moving to a major label, these guys never really "sold out" because here they are today, on a major label, making great music. Qwll that's all for now, hope you injoyed my thughts on my 10 favourite bands. Total Comments 3
