Okay, I want to make a good first impression on this forum, so here I go!

ABOUT ME
I have been a fan of ssb ever since the n64 version came out. Needless to say, I'm (for the most part) incredibly good at the games. I also talk with a good friend of mine, who won some melee tournies (peach), about the games

WHAT MAKES A GOOD CHARACTER?
One of the most important subjects in ssb is the characters. However, just because you like a certain character, that doesn't necessarily mean it's a good character. There are a couple of aspects that a character MUST have to be considered worthwhile:
+ At least one ranged form of attacking OR a quick, sweeping attack w/ a fast character (i.e. Falcon kick)
+ A good method of recovery
+ At least one relatively fast move

THE BRAWL CHARACTERS
NOTE: Parts of this are incomplete due to the game being relatively new. Incomplete character reviews will be marked with a *** and will be completed later.

Meta Knight # (6/10) # Many people play MK because his play style is really cool (and fun); however, he has some fundamental flaws. First off, he has no ranged attacks (forward-b isn't fast enough). He also lacks a useful secondary ability, such as a counter/reflecter. He is also not that fast. So you are simply left with a light character that simply can't really do much.

Pit # (8/10) # Pit has all the qualities of a good character. But, his attacks lack any significant knockback and have relatively low priority.

Sonic # (5/10) # No range + Low priority + limited moveset = epic failure. His only saving grace is that he is so fast that some inexperienced players won't react fast enough.

Snake # (5/10) # Range? Check. Power? Check. Recovery? Check. Speed? Could be better, but is manageable. However, he is difficult for a beginner to use.

Ganondorf # (3/10) # Gd's brawl update saddens me immensly because he was my best melee character. Here's what the Brawl update gave him: + His forward-B move now causes ZERO knockback. + All of his attacks' knockback have been severely reduced. +He is HALF as fast.

Olimar # (?/10) # *** still haven't completely figured him out

Fox # (8/10) # He has been nerfed so that now he's not completely over-powered. Yay! But he is still a solid Character...

Mr. Game & Watch # (5/10) # Just avoid using him.

Peach # (9/10) # Her turnips give her range and her reversal is deadly. The only melee-brawl change seems to be that her second jump has been replaced by her float ability.

Captain Falcon # (6/10) # Sadly, CF doesn't excel in anything, due to the fact that there are faster characters.

Bowser # (4/10) # Was made slightly better in Brawl, but is still too slow to land a hit.

King Dedede # (?/10) # ***

you cant judge characters by thier moves, i use ganondorf, and ask kirby, im a pretty good brawler, and im still getting use to his new moves, so you cant say whos who or atleast give ganondorf a better score since people who say he sucks just play the bot version of him, so if you ranking bots, sure but if not ganondorf is not a 3

ALSO, you say he was your main on melee, me aswell, but there's no difference besides his up a attack his swing his leg ONCE, nothing new, but dude, ganondorf isnt a crappy character, if you were so good with him, you'd notice he is used for aerialists, his b <> attack sends them flying down if thier in-mid air b + V smashes them down and gives you another jump and recovery, and a V does a very strong attack, PLUS his A + > < attack doesnt send them up now, but far right or left, so no you havnt given me a good impression

if you're gonna rate them by what theyreally are, including sonic, SONIC is a team player, he weakens them down, and is great for distractions and such more, as stopping a grab attack, a strong charged attack, sonic is great, if you know how to use him

metaknight not havning a ranged? like that makes a difference, your not playing a stage that goes 100 m long, you're playing something like FD, which meta knights Down b attack works to disspear and come up from behind
and can easliy use his b attack so he wont be knocked back that much, and can quickly stop him, if there was a fight in something like... a big stage, all ranged attacks like foxes dont make you fall back, so wow, it takes you 5 seconds to get there and you can easily just dodge it cause you cant aim it, for pit, just R + Down it, it's super easy....

your snake is BS.. 9/10 my but ^^ snake is 2 slow IMO.. also his moves are easy to ddge as they do not happen instantly ( besides his front smash.) WICH HAS VERRY LOW RANGE! IMO snake is like a 4...

but any way... u sohuld elaborate it more like link said...

Yes, yes, I'm not done with it yet, so I will elaborate more on them...

Also, you forget that Ganondorf is now half as fast as before, and the fact that the gravity is more realistic in Brawl (hence the Havok engine). He is still usable but he's not nearly as good as he was in melee, and would severely frustrate a new player.

!!! - Also, the score is NOT supposed to be how good a character is (because that depends on how good the player is), but how good that character would be for a new player.

Also, if you don't think some form of range is necessary, you're insane. Range gives you the ability to rack up damage at a safe distance from your opponent, and meta knight ONLY has quick slashes. He has no range, no reversals, no reflectors, not even a special talent (like aura). He's fairly useful in the subspace emissary and is fun to play as, but he doesn't stand much of a chance against an experienced player.

And great job with your spam, GoldenLink. Epic Fail.

1. U DO NOT NEED RANGE! i ply as peach all the time.. i NEVER sue her radishes... and i can easily win most 1v1... Brawl is not a game of brute force ( in 1v1 matches ) its a game of strategy. think f it as rock paper scisors...

defend/dodge>attack>grab>defend/dodge

basic>smash>special>basic.

u ahve to counter your opponents moves and be able to move yourself into possition to get the best opppurunities, a tru master of this game would not use a range attack, they would stay in close to stop there opponents from using range.

of course my wisdom only works on 1v1 matchers anything else range is probaly a good thing.

(You can't down-smash spam with Peach in Brawl)

Also, that logic is flawed in two ways:

1) This guide isn't for "tru masters", it's for beginners.

2) So you're saying that if they are far away, you don't throw turnips at them? If so, you're just being an idiot. Combo or not, it's still damage. If ya want I'll hook you up with a friend of mine who plays Peach and he can show you some good strategies, because it seems to me that you have simply learned how to tech and spam with peach, which, to an experienced player, is fairly easy to counter.

If you still don't believe in range, just go to youtube and search for a pro fox/falco fight. (proving that even pros use range)

what r u thinking putting this on this site rite at the realesr of SSBB, it's not your job to criticise all the characters (that i would pawn u with anyway)

never said pros NEVER use range. i did not even use the word pro for that amtter if ur going to get super techical on me ur an idiot. plus it was not a guide.

PLUS a fox/falco game is diffrent because there range is not an item. peach is ntoa range character her turnips suck ( besides the realy strong one) and fox range is realy god if u don't over use it... so please do not act like a know it all when ur just a lil nobody that thinks he is good!

i really don't think snake deserves a 9.
FOR A FREAKING BEGINNER i would say 4 or 5.
He is frustrating.
