New clawshot: worthless?

I've been looking for a well regulated forum to post some comments and ideas on strategy changes for certain characters transferring from Melee to Brawl in hopes that people will offer constructive help and criticism. Let me qualify my statements by saying that I am in no way new to the game and am not asking for basic techniques on how to use the character, but complex strategy adjustments on a peer level unrelated to anyones individual epeen size (Xbox users, log out now). That in mind, don't hesitate to post if you are new to the character(s) and want to better understand them on a more basic level than I'm about to discuss here.

So about this clawshot. Nintendo hyped that it would finally be useful in that it angles toward ledges automatically, and introduced several new characters with similar abilities like Olimar and Ivysaur. This was met with overwhelming praise. I thought this would be great as it would fix those occasional times when I'd miss the impossibly small ledges like Jungle Japes. For those who don't know, the hook shot in Melee when combined with a side dodge in air could get about 1.5x more horizontal distance than Link's up B making it very useful for those times when you are knocked sideways but not up. Also you could fire it into a wall to jump off of it as a third jump independent of your up B. This meant Link had the ability to survive a meteor smash on any level with a vertical wall like Fourside because you could second jump, side dodge up, hook shot, third jump, up B and finally make it back from literally any vertical distance.

Well this new fangled clawshot arrives and appears to be slightly shorter than the hook shot. I found it to be significantly shorter because when I try to tag a wall it angles up to the ledge and misses because for those who know geometry, a hypotenuse wont cover as much horizontal distance as a flat line. Also the side dodge in air no longer lets you move, a change that I'm ok with as it gets rid of wave dashing, an unintended ability which did not scale evenly in usage across the characters. But the point I'm trying laboriously to get to here is that the clawshot has no practical use anymore since there is no time it would save you that you couldn't have gotten back with up B. People say "yes but it avoids edge campers," which is a load of dingos kidneys since if you time it right you can fall under the ledge and up B so that the tip of your sword clips the camper as you barely grab the edge from an unhittably low altitude (admittedly more difficult to time than just smacking the button and hoping for the best, but difficulty isn't my concern here).

In searching the internet for people with similar problems all I've found is endless masturbation upon this new clawshot which makes me wonder if my distaste is mistaken. Anyone else have this problem and not have any decent place to bitch about it? Seriously, gimme some input here; am I just crazy?
