Yeah, but they also have to figure out how to put it into the smiley box (or does it do that already?) and they would have to set which symbols (semi-colon, close parenthesy for a wink, for example) would make it appear.

It does that already. And editing them to do that is just as easy. I believe if they just overrode the current smilies, it would do ALL that automatically.
