Four school shootings in one week

Well this may be Valentines Day but it is certainly not a joyous day for some. Today marks the fourth school shooting in a week in the US.

1. Today (2/14) 6 people (including the killer) died and 16 others were wounded in a classroom shooting at Northern Illinois University.

2. Feb. 8 a woman shot two to death before killing herself at Louisiana Technical College

3. Feb. 11, in Memphis, Tenn. a 17 year old shoot and injured a fellow student during gym class.

4. A 15 year old has been declared brain dead after being shot at his school in Oxnard, Calif.

Many of us here are either in Middle School, High School, or college. With all the violence that is happening in our schools recently, and not just the past week but the past few years, how safe do you feel in school? Do you believe that extra measure should be put into place to keep our schools and universities safe from violence? Because it has become apparent that NO school or university is safe from violence.

I never feel safe at school.
My school is said to be one of the "safest" school in the nation, but things DO happen.
Last year, there were many bad things happening.
Every week, there seemed to be a locker fire, there were gangs, and other things.
One week, there was a locker fire everyday. It didn't seem very bad, but it was.
Another day, there was a bomb threat. Everyone was evacuated from the building for 2 hours.
Another time, I just decided to randomly watch the news (i never liked watching the news before) and there was something about my school. Apperantly, there was a fight in the back of the school. One person was stabbed and the criminal ran away. The school was on lock-down at that very moment i was watching the news.
And yet ANOTHER time, i was walking through the hallway, and then a heard rapid fire explosions. At first i thought it was gun fire, but then i looked over and saw that someone lit fireworks in the hallway. I was litterally 2 feet away from the explosions.

In another school very close to where i live, there were two very bad shooting. I think everyone in the country knows of this school now. It was Virginia Tech. It's very frightning knowing that things like this happen to this very day. We should at least be thankful that nothing as bad as the holocaust happened a second time.

Well, I think that the schools are some of the most unsafest places to be in the U.S.

Some schools are very protective, but others have security guards with no guns, so how is that supposed to protect from a killer?

Students are not safe, from shooters, teachers, or other students. Being in school is for your learning, but the security for schools is horrible.

My old Elementary school is horrible D: I don't want to say what's in the middle school.
They're gangs everywhere, and my friend Tre and I always seem to get in their way.I really felt like kicking them, because I knew I was stronger than them.Apparently I don't want to be the one getting in trouble, but my awesome Dad put some 'nice' comments on them once I told my parents.

School is not a safe place. A couple weeks ago, some kid was caught with a knife in there locker, but they didn't even get suspended. Schools aren't always safe.

I'm not sure if I feel too safe in my school either. A couple of months ago, some one vandalized my school. They through this HUGE rick or something at the cafetiria winow and it shattered. Still, nothing terrible has ever happened...yet. For somereason, I feel safer with the 8th graders then my grade or 6th grade because they seem...smarter...more dangerouse.:justno:

Figured I'd throw in my two cents since I started the thread. I feel my school is very safe, however it seems to be the so called "safe schools" that the worst violence occurs. While I can not do much about the school itself, I try to keep my class safe and promote a safe learning environment for all my students. I am very strict about students making fun, threatening, or harrassing other students. It is difficult at times because I am a coach and my wrestlers think I will let them do it. Of course, if they try it, they will be sorry since they will be running till they throw up. Of course, I cannot do this with other students but there is no warning and they are staying after school with me.

It took a while for this to all set in but now the students feel safe, no one is afraid to speak up in class and my students work together in different groups well. Yet I really cannot do much outside my class and certainly outside my school where I believe a lot of the trouble occurs. Luckily we are practicing more drills in case someone is not supposed to be in our school or someone has a weapon, hopefully it will never come to it though.

I've never had that experience really, back when I lived in my hometown the schools never had a serious threat. It's only recently that I am attending college (In would you believe the Murder Capital of Canada..and that isn't a lie either) that I don't feel safe, it doesn't help either that the college I go to ends with Technical College. As two schools were hit, Virgina Tech and Louisiana Tech.

We actually did receive a threat in our college's bathroom stall saying they were going to kill every student in the school, thank goodness it was just a joke and nothing did happen. I didn't attend classes the the next day though. It's quite frightful. And the colleges lock down drill is riddiculous..we are supposed to turn off all the lights and hide in the little classroom, instead of running out the window (They are easy and big enough to open and go through within one second flat.)
