As a College student majoring in Graphic Design I can tell you right now, JPEG is good on the internet only. So what you do is fine here. What Jpeg does is every time you open the image in photoshop, gradually the pixels disappear, which is why it is never a good idea to save it as a JPEG if you are not placing it on the internet.

TIFF is the best format to use when you want to save it as just a picture on the computer. But always, use JPEG or GIF while posting pictures on the internet.

its been awhile scine i made a sig but i think u save it as png. well i save as png

Saving it as a .png is only good for reserving transparent background and having unlocked layers. I still suggest only jpeg and gif when it comes to uploading signatures. UNLESS it has a transparent background, then save it as a .png or .psd.
