Nintendo Announces Pay To Play Program

As of now, Playstation and Nintendo are the only two companies that are allowing free online play, but not for long.

Nintendo's Takashi Aoyama announced that they will be starting a "Pay To Play Program" which is pretty self explanatory. Games that have NWFC and are out now will not be affected by this, but games to come will soon have a fee to play it online.

So that customers will not be confused and buy a certain game that charges, Nintendo will have the same NWFC symbol on the box, but will be orange and will say "Pay to Play" under the symbol.

What does this mean for future titles? Not many know yet, but we may see ourselves paying to race a friend, or bring a buddy to your town, we will just have to see as this project unveils itself.

I don't know if I'd want to pay.... I'll have to see the games and how much extra features are added because of it.

No the idea is still in affect, so Brawl will MOST likely not be affected by this, but MKWii and Animal Crossing may be...

As was mentioned in the thread about this, the way they made it sound is that it will be for MMORPG type games. Square-Enix has talked about the possibility of a Final Fantasy MMORPG for the Wii and I can really see Will Wright's upcoming Spore game using this feature.

Well, the on-line sure as hell better be a hell of a lot better if they do this to us, or else no one will be on-line. That means no friend codes, voice chat, lobbies, sending voice and text messages, no lags, sending videos and files, ranking, and much more.

I would hate to have to pay for these functions... as if Nintendo isn't getting enough money right now.
