Microsoft's Aaron Greenburg claims Wii customers will move on to Xbox 360

In an interview with Gamasutra, Aaron Greenberg, director of product management for Xbox 360 and Xbox live, commented on Microsoft's attempt to attract casual gamers, and suggested that Wii users are "going to want to graduate to an Xbox 360 experience" over time.

When asked about Microsoft's intent to bring the more casual gamers over to the 360, and whether it's possible to appeal to 'hardcore' and 'casual' gamers in the same system, he responded:

"Yeah, absolutely. I think that there's a difference in the type of customer that is buying the Wii. When you think about it, there's a difference between trying to be the number one console with nine year old gamers, and being the console that offers the most experiences from 13 to 33.

I think for us, we don't really see the Wii as a direct competitor, we actually very much complement the Wii experience. It's obviously clear that we're going head-to-head with the PS3 in this generation. I think what Xbox will be able to do as well as the Wii is grow the market."

The full interview with Greenberg will be released soon.

So, Greenberg is basically stating that the Nintendo Wii is targeting the younger gamers, while the Xbox 360 is targeting older gamers. Therefore, Microsoft isn't really competing with Nintendo and is only competing with Sony's PS3.

Untrue...
If that's what he wants to believe, go ahead, but I would remind him that most of the people on this site are in the 13- 19 range. Although, my friend at school... he did, "Graduate" to the 360... He played Brawl for all of about 5 days and then went back to CoD4. Then, when MK Wii was released he played that for 2 days... Then went back to CoD4... But I respect his opinion.

That is true, but look at the games for the Wii. Most are rated E or T, not many Mature ratings.
Then look at the 360, A LOT of their games are rated Mature; such as CoD4, Assassin's Creed, Halo 3, GTA IV and so much more.

i think this guy is right, the Wii doesn't have many M rated games so it allows older people who want that (which is alot of people) switch to another system, i did it, my friend did it. i have a PS3 while my friend has a Xbox360, we both know the Wii is fun but... i think of it as... more of a system for kids (don't attack me) but i'm more of a serious person and i like blood in my games and LOTS of action and the Wii doesn't have that.

See.. This is what I hate, pricks like him. Wii "fanboys" won't go to xbox 360 but average hardcore gamers. Already like xbox 360, and the wii. I mean I love the wii, but the xbox just has soo many FPS they can bring up personally. See stupid CEO's try to get the simple non hardcore gamers ( little kids, parents, etc.) To get there stuff just because they want more to be sold. Ramble ramble ramble blah blah yeah (h)

I disagree with Greenburg entirely.
The wii has many great games. The 360 has a lot of M rated games, but Nintendo's way ahead of them. As it said in the interview, he thinks that Nintendo is targeting "nine year old gamers", well I'm 13 and I prefer the wii. In fact, a lot of people here are 13 to 19. Although I agree Nintendo needs to get more rated M games. Well that's my take on the matter.
