Nintendo has stated on multiple occasions that they will have voice enabled chat in the future so trust me my man it is coming. However for now, the best option is to use Skype. That is why we have a Skype name thread on here so people can add one another and I always use Skype when I am playing my friends. So that is the best you can ask for right now. Plus if Skype is good enough for our podcasts, its good enough for chatting during gaming hehe. Even Reggie said that for right now people should use Skype until Nintendo does come out with voice chat.

That seems like a very unlikely alternative, seeing as the other slots would be better suited and convenient. I don't think it would be even remotely possible to use the SD card slot.
