No, Sonic is still SEGA. I think that he meant that he is a trademark on nintendo systems maybe, because I think he was on most of the nintendo systems.

Um, NO? The day Link or Ness makes it into a MK game will be the day Master Chief makes it into a SSB game.

Simply put, NO!
It is called "Mario" Kart not "Super Smash Bros. Kart". Adding non-mario characters would destroy that fact and make the game completely pointless and horrible.
