Pay to Play Your Wii

During a Game Developers Conference session called "Planning the Wii Menu" today, Nintendo's Takashi Aoyama announced a new Pay to Play program. This will be a new version of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (NWFC). Aoyama explained that NWFC will remain a free service, but forthcoming experiences will require users to pay a fee to enjoy. These services will fall under the new NWFC: Pay to Play program. Games that utilize the new service will feature a logo similar to the one used for NWFC but is orange and reads Pay to Play at the bottom.

Unfortunately, Aoyama did not go into details about what games or services we will be paying to play. He did say Nintendo is taking steps to ensure consumers don't mistakenly buy a Pay to Play game with the expectation that they will be able to access the entire game for no extra charge.

I always talked about this and it finally came true! I am defintely paying to play xD! Maybe we would have a more xbox live turn over for Nintendo with this! Oh please let it be just imagine all the great stuff Nintendo could offer!

From what I got out of it, it seems to only be on future upcoming Wii games and it will just be for some extra content. I doubt Brawl will have that as it is already in Japan and they have Wi-Fi content for free so I cannot see them doing it for Brawl. Besides all the pictures of the cover of the game still show the blue Wi-Fi label.

i would be so mad if mario kart wii had this.

abnd according to the 1st post they are "planning" to do this...


in my oppinion... thye are probably going to get another FF online... this way FF still gets there monthly charges threw that P2P that nintendo will charge... besides that i can't realy thinkof any other games that could use a P2P feature... maybe some cool MMORPG's are commnig out on wii ???

Well if I gotta pay looks like there outta luck, I wanted a nintendo wii for FREE gaming I don't wanna pay for anything "monthly" or anything like that... It just wouldn't be worth it in my eyes..

As much as I would love to see a MMORPG on the Wii, I cannot really see that happening. Even though the Wii is very popular, I do not think a MMORPG would do well on it seeing as alot of people that own Wii's are "casual" gamers and MMORPGs are the exact opposite of that. However the last comment in the article does kinda of hint at something like a MMORPG:

I am really interested to see what Nintendo has up it's sleeve.
